The New Zealand government has announced the preliminary results of the poll to determine which of the five shortlisted designs for a new flag will go ahead to a final vote later this month.
Silver Fern (Black, White and Blue) by Melbourne-based architect Kyle Lockwood (shown above) came out top with just over 50% of total votes received so far. However, another of his designs, Silver Fern (Red, White and Blue), was a close second (see the full results here). There are still a number of postal votes to be counted, meaning that the rankings could change once the final result is announced on Tuesday December 15.
Whichever design comes out top then will go forward to a run off with the existing flag to be held in March.
