Pinterest co-founder Evan Sharp at CR Club

At the latest of our CR Club events for Creative Review subscribers, Pinterest co-founder Evan Sharp talked about his plans for the platform and the role of design in Silicon Valley

Sharp was speaking at The Hospital Club in London to an audience of CR subscribers, Hospital Club members and Central St Martins students. All CR subscribers were invited to the event which was free (see here for more details of our CR Club events and offers).

An architect and designer by training, Sharp started Pinterest with co-founders Ben Silbermann and Paul Sciarra in 2010. He explained that he built it initially for himself as a place to bookmark inspirational images but that, as is the way with such platforms, users have now taken it on into new areas that are byond what he initially imagined, including teachers using it to plan lessons.

In response to some probing questions from the floor, Sharp talked about the not always positive influence of the huge amount of money washing around Silicon Valley and San Francisco, Pinterest’s desire to correctly attribute images online, its plans to grow and generate revenue and how it is dealing with data and privacy issues.
