Paul Jung is a truly global creative – he was born in Taiwan, grew up in Australia and is now based in New York, whilst also working in Milan, Beijing and Shanghai. Previously working as an agency art director in China, Jung moved to America to focus on his Masters in Photography at the School of Visuals Arts. Graduating in 2013, Jung now focuses full time on photography and film.
Jung’s work straddles different worlds and defies categorisation, effortlessly moving between fashion, film, fine art, editorial and commercial assignments. Achieving a huge amount in just two years, he has a handful of great commissions under his belt for Nike, Cos and BMW as well as an impressive portfolio of fashion editorial for I.D, W magazine and the New York Times.
Jung’s signature style is sleek, graphic and intriguing. His fresh take on minimalism creates a confident and succinct portfolio while still maintaining a dark sense of curiosity. His subtle and refined colour palette focuses on the illusion of a monochromatic image but is full of nuanced tones, producing a powerful and unique aesthetic.
Jung’s compositions tease – he shows you just enough to leave the viewer wanting more. His models defy gravity and have strength and power even when contorted or free falling.
Well informed and focused, Jung’s rapidly building an impressive portfolio. It’s clear he has mastered an approach that is intrinsically him, and now he is free to break the rules.
“Photography is simply a means to an end, what’s interesting is what is communicated, and the journey towards it.” (Paul Jung)
