What makes a great image?

Each year, our Photography Annual showcases outstanding commercial photography from the past year as chosen by a panel of industry experts. (Last year’s judges included Jess Crombie, head of visual creative at Save the Children, Gemma Fletcher, senior art director at Getty Images and Sarah Douglas, creative director at Wallpaper*).

Categories award images for fashion, editorial and advertising as well as personal and non-published work and this year, we’ve also introduced a free-to-enter category for students and recent graduates.

In judging submissions, our panel looks not just for beautiful imagery, but excellence in craft, an innovative idea or a fresh new take on their subject matter.
