Ads of the Week

From humour to heartbreak to hyperbole, our Ads of the Week have a bit of everything. Dig in.

First up is a sweet and witty new spot for Nike, which stars an unlikely sporting hero who finds himself invited to play with some of the best sportsmen and women around when their teams find themselves 'short a guy'.

Agency: Wieden + Kennedy Portland; Creative directors: Chris Groom, Stuart Brown; Creatives: Derek Syznal, Jason Campbell; Director: Stacy Wall; Production company: Imperial Woodpecker.

The emotional relationship that surfers have with their sport is well-captured in this film from Samsung, which also highlights the brand's sponsorship of the World Surf League. Agency: 72andSunny Amsterdam; Director: Eliot Rausch; Production company: Stink.

Another, rather lovely, ode to the sea now – this time via poet John Cooper Clarke. The spot is for the National Trust and celebrates the UK's coastline. Agency: 18 Feet & Rising; Creatives: Alex Delaney, Johnny Leathers; Director: Thomas Bryant; Production company: Agile Film.

The first of two rather heartbreaking spots for you now. This one, a short film from AT&T, provides a graphic reminder of why you shouldn't look at your phone when you're driving. It's long for an ad, but the performances and the set up do a great job of drawing you into the narrative. Agency: BBDO New York; CCO, Worldwide: David Lubars; CCO, New York: Greg Hahn; ECD: Matt McDonald; Senior creative directors: LP Tremblay, Erik Fahrenkopf; Creatives: Grant Mason, Kevin Mulroy; Director: Frederic Planchon; Production company: Anonymous Content.

Another absorbing but emotional short now, also with standout performances, this time from BBH Asia Pacific, Singapore. The spot highlights Orange Aid, a fund from Singaporean insurance company NTUC Income that provides bursaries for students in need. It's a slow burn but chances are you'll be welling up by the end. ECD: Scott McClelland; Creative director: Peter Callaghan; Creatives: Janson Choo, Khairul Mondzi, Germaine Chen, Marcus Yuen, Boo Weiyi; Director: James Lee; Production company: Doghouse73 Pictures.

Need a bit of cheering up now? Here's a silly but funny ad for Clearasil. Agency: Droga5 New York; Creative chairman: David Droga; CCO: Ted Royer; Group creative director: Tim Gordon; Senior creatives: Ryan Raab, Dan Kenneally; Chief creation officer: Sally-Ann Dale; Director: Aaron Stoller; Production company: Biscuit Filmworks.

We end on the promised note of hyperbole with this gloriously over-the-top ad for Airbnb, which suggests that the company, rather than being a neat way to stay in some unexpected places, in fact offers us a way of discovering the goodness of mankind. Blimey. Agency: TBWA Chiat Day; CCO: Stephen Butler; Creative director: Brent Anderson; Creatives: Scott Brown, Becky Ginos; Writer: Sue Anderson; Director: Lance Acord; Production company: Park Pictures.
