Own a Comedy Carpet off-cut

The production of the brilliant Comedy Carpet installation, which was created by Gordon Young and designed with Why Not Associates, required the setting up of a complete factory to fabricate the thousands of granite letters needed. A huge amoount of excess material was created in the process, some of which is now available to buy in a new show documenting the project

Our October 2011 cover created for us by Why Not Associates using Comedy Carpet off-cuts

Sited in front of Blackpool Tower, the Comedy Carpet contains over 160,000 granite letters embedded into concrete. Young created a specialist factory and recruited a production team for the manufacture of these letters. The cutting process generated literally tons of waste granite in a variety of typographic shapes and forms, which now form part of the exhibition Comedy Carpet Off-Cuts at Jealous Gallery in east London.

Some of these unique fragments will be available to buy at the show with prices ranging from just £15 to around £200 for the larger pieces

Exhibited alongside the letter fragments will be film footage, a documentary book, photographs and a screenprint edition produced in the Jealous Print Studio (shown below)

Comedy Carpet Off-Cuts is at Jealous East, 53 Curtain Rd, London EC2A 3PT until June 7 and then at Jealous Crouch End from June 10 to July 5
