Random Spectacular Two

We were quite taken with the first issue of Random Spectacular, a large-format journal put together by Norwich-based fabrics and wallpaper company St Jude's, which featured a great selection of illustration and print making. Three years on, issue two has just been published – and it was well worth the wait...

Random Spectacular is an unusual piece of print – not least for its sporadic appearance – in that it offers readers the chance to see artists and illustrators' work displayed at such a generous size on the page, with full-bleed pieces appearing throughout its 96 pages.

As illustration and print work are the subject of many of the articles – there are eight pages on Eric Ravilious' Submarine lithographs, for example, another eight on the Hansel and Gretel illustrations of Clive Hicks-Jenkins – it is no surprise that the journal's pages are packed with captivating pictures. Photography also features, with a great series of iPhone images shot by Finn Beales.

St Jude's strong links with artists and illustrators enabled founders Simon and Angie Lewin to set up St Jude's Prints in 2005 – and it's from this venture that the journal, featuring the work of many of their print contributors, emerged. In its second issue, contributors include Mark Hearld, Angie Lewin, Emily Sutton, Ed Kluz, Ralph Steadman, Jonny Hannah and Christopher Brown.

And only adding to the appeal of the journal, all profits from sales of the issue will also be donated to Maggie's Cancer Caring Centres. (St Jude's raised over £6,500 from the first issue of Random Spectacular.) Issue one sold out its 750 copies in 48 hours – so if you like the look of its sequel, you'd best be quick.

Random Spectacular features end papers designed by Mark Hearld; additional design, artwork and editing by Simon Lewis; and was printed by Swallowtail Print in Norwich. It is available to purchase from at £18.95. The price includes recorded delivery postage in the UK (for all other countries their standard shipping rates apply). At this time St Jude's are limiting purchases to one copy per person
