The film depicts actor Vicky McClure (This Is England, Line of Duty) reciting Act 1, Scene V from Shakespeare’s Macbeth. Things start straight-forwardly enough, with McClure found in a suburban setting, drawing on a cigarette. But they quickly move towards horror, with zooming camera shots and then Milner’s soaring animation.
Lady Macbeth, like the audience, is left in a staring panic by the end.
Wilson’s film, produced by Colonel Blimp, is one of a series commissioned by the British Council for the Shakespeare Lives programme, which celebrates the 400th anniversary of the bard’s death. More info is at shakespearelives.org.
