Top Cat appears in Halifax ad

We’ve had Mog selling Sainsburys, The Muppets selling Warburtons crumpets, and now another childhood favourite, Top Cat, has popped up in an advert, this time for UK bank Halifax.

These ads are well-crafted and respectfully made but this is advertising with a simple (and some might say manipulative) intention – the spots aim to give us a warm glow by making us feel nostalgic for our youth, and the brands hope that this cheerful feeling will then extend to them.

And it works, to an extent, though the more brands that attempt this style of ad, the less effective it will become. Will this one receive the love of the two Christmas ads, for example? I’m not so sure.
