South East Makers Club is a two-day event showcasing studios and independent makers in South East London. A design trail begins in Deptford and spans New Cross, Lewisham, Brockley, Camberwell and Peckham.
Deptford Market Yard is hosting exhibitions by furniture designer Sebastian Cox and photographer Yeshen Venema. At nearby Cockpit Arts, wood sculptor Eleanor Lakelin, textile designer Catarina Riccabona and ceramicist Leah Jensen will be giving daily tours of their studios.
Local designers and makers will also be giving talks on their work at Lewisham Art House: Jay Osgerby, Ben Chatfield (co-founder of graphic design agency Bravo Charlie Mike Hotel) and leather designer Candice Lau are speaking on Saturday while Sunday’s line-up features Sebastian Cox, textile designer Eleanor Pritchard and industrial product designer Tord Boontje.
Other invents include a craft film festival at Curzon Goldsmiths, with daily screenings of short films about materials and making, a SE Makers Market in Peckham and a designers pub quiz at Peckham pub The Nines.
Some events are free but others are ticketed – see southeastmakersclub.co.uk for details.
